Simply take a smiling selfie and the tool simulates the outcome of your smile transformation right before your eyes.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>Do braces hurt?\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Every person will have a different experience with braces, but here’s what you can generally expect:\u003C/p>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>Some patients have to wear spacers between their teeth for a week or two before getting braces. They may feel tight or sore for a few days (sort of like having food caught between your teeth), but this discomfort should ease over time.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>When being fitted for braces, patients do not usually experience any immediate pain. The same goes for applying the glue (although it might taste funny!), bonding the brackets, and connecting them with wires.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>After a few hours, the gentle pressure that braces put on your teeth will start to take effect. Any pain or discomfort you feel should last for less than a week. You may also experience sore gums or sore teeth when chewing – but again, this is temporary. Eating soft foods like yogurt, soup, and bananas can help, as can over-the-counter pain relievers. Be sure not to run your tongue along your braces to avoid any cuts.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>When your braces are tightened, you may experience the same pressure in your teeth and gums, but only for a day or two.\u003C/li>\n\u003C/ul>\n\u003Cp>Doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Most people get totally used to their braces in a matter of weeks.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>Do braces change your face?\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>It depends. Using braces or Invisalign aligners to align your teeth means that the soft tissues laying over them (such as your lips and cheeks) will conform as well. However, this change is gradual and less obvious in adults, whose facial features are already developed.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Braces do not change your lips as far as fullness or shape are concerned – they can only change the position of your lips. For example, if you have an underbite and your lower and upper teeth are brought into proper alignment, your lips may appear slightly plumper.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Braces also do not change your nose, but they can change the shape and size of your jaw in younger patients. As an adult, the only way to change your jawline is through a surgical procedure.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>Can braces make your teeth fall out?\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>No, braces will not make your teeth fall out! During the first few days of wearing braces, as your teeth begin to shift, they may feel looser. This is perfectly normal – your teeth are not going anywhere.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>Will I be able to eat my favorite foods?\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>You will have to avoid some foods, but there are a ton of “braces-friendly” foods you can still enjoy. As mentioned above, soft foods are best in the very beginning (think mashed potatoes and mac n’ cheese!). No more nuts?\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>If you’re thinking about getting braces or have already made the decision to improve your smile (kudos to you!), you likely have concerns about what foods you can and can’t eat.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Good news: there are tons of foods that are “braces-friendly” that you can still eat and enjoy throughout your orthodontic treatment. And yes, there are some foods that you will need to avoid as well. But isn’t having a healthy, confident smile worth temporarily giving up a few of your favorites? Most of our patients would say that it absolutely is.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>We hope you’ll take this opportunity to learn what you can eat and drink with braces, some cooking tips, and what you can look forward to eating again once your treatment is complete (Laffy Taffy, anyone?).\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>When your first get braces\u003C/strong>\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Like any other adjustment in life, the first few days are the toughest. Getting braces means your mouth will likely be sensitive in the days following your initial appointment, which is why soft foods are best for you in the beginning. In an ideal world, you would be able to eat and drink anything you want with braces. But there are certain foods that you’ll have to bid farewell to during treatment – namely anything that’s hard or sticky. We encourage you to look at this experience as an ideal time to branch out and try different foods. Who knows, you might end up finding some new recipes that stay on your menu long after your braces come off.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>Cooking and food prep tips\u003C/strong>\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Our best advice for cooking is quite simple: keep it soft. Soft-cooked meats, rice, potatoes, and vegetables are all safe to enjoy with braces. A crockpot or instant pot can be extremely helpful when making braces-friendly meals. You should also:\u003C/p>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>Cut sandwiches and any crunchy fruits, vegetables, or bread into bite-sized pieces\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>Cut the crust off a slice of pizza before eating it (be sure to use your back teeth when you chew)\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>Never eat meat off the bone\u003C/li>\n\u003C/ul>\n\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>Don’t forget drinks\u003C/strong>\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Smoothies and healthy shakes are also great alternatives for people with braces. Be sure to limit your consumption of sugary drinks such as soda, juice, and sports drinks. When sugar mixes with saliva, it creates a sticky film that coats the teeth (also known as plaque). Brushing your teeth can remove plaque, but that becomes harder to do with braces – putting you at higher risk for tooth decay and cavities. Tap water and milk are always the best beverage choices for braces.\u003C/p>\n\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>I want candy\u003C/strong>\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Perhaps this is the best news of all – even though hard and sticky candies must be avoided, there are some types of candy that you can still eat while wearing braces.
